South African and Mamelodi Sundowns Midfielder, Jayden Adams Has Passed Away

The tragic news has been confirmed by Adams family members and representatives today. They have informed that he died at his home, Stellenbosch in the morning.
Adams' cause death remains in question
His family and close people revealed that Adam's death has come unfortunate and no one expected it thus leaving them with no reason behind his death. Mamelodi Sundowns has requested for the Adams family privacy to be respected in this hard moment of the grief.
Jayden Adams in 2026 Bafana Bafana World Cup Squad
Jayden's death comes few days after he made his World Cup debut with the South Africa international team,Bafana Bafana. He played a Key role in the teams group stages matches, thus helping to secure the round of 32.
Represented his Country at World Cup while hurting death of his grandmother
According to Reuters , Jayden's grandmother and who helped in raising him was reported to have passed away day before the Bafana bafana faced Czech Republic. Adams started from the bench and was subbed on in the second half.
Adams achievements in football
As reported by The Guardian , Adams started his career as an academy player at Stellenbosch FC where he became their first graduate and signed a contract with them in 2020. Later, he joined Mamelodi Sundowns and become their essential defensive midfielder.
From FOTMOB player statistics, Adams won League Cup with Stellenbosch FC in 2023 before heading to Mamelodi Sundowns where he helped the team win the Betway Premiership in 2024/2025 and also CAF champions league in 2025/2026 season.
Fotmob data also shows that Adam's had a transfer market value of €320K in July 2026 which is an increase compared to €79K in 2022.
Following the reports, Adams played 139 matches for Stellenbosch, scoring 9 goals before he signed with Mamelodi Sundowns where he scored 6 goals in 66 matches. For the national team, he played 13 matches where he managed to score 2 goals.
Condolences from McKenzie, South Africa Sports Minister
Gayton McKenzie, Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture in Republic of South Africa condolences statement via Ministry official X account, "...match against Czechia...Jayden seemed quiet on the bench, afterwards I learned that he had taken to the field that day a fresh grief of losing his grandmother, Marrianna."

McKenzie added that South Africa has lost one of it's brightest young talents.
South Africa Football Players Union ( SAFPU) Statement
The SAFPU via their Twitter official account has expressed devastation on the passing of Adams. In their statement, they have mentioned that Jayden carried the hopes of South Africans proudly, courageously and in distinction during 2026 FIFA World Cup tournament.
The union has also stated that South African football has lost a gifted player who has still much to offer. "His passing is immeasurable loss to his family, teammates, clubs, football fraternity and the country at large...we extend our deepest condolences..."
Impacts following the death of Adams
It is likely that both Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana will have will have to find another fit midfielder who will replace Adams. To both teams, the tragic news might affect the team's performance given that Adams was a crucial player to them.
With this painful news, Jayden's family has suffered huge loss of both Jayden and his grandmother.
