7.2 and 7.5 Quakes Hit Caracas With 32 Dead and 700 Injured As Venezuela Declares Emergency
In Venezuela, June 24, 2026, fear took over Caracas, capital city after back-to-back earthquakes.
According to Reuters reports, U.S Geological Survey (USGS) has recorded 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude quakes which struck the city.
Casualties and damages caused
Buildings have collapsed across the city sending people to the streets. Reports from different news sources show at least 32 people are dead and more than 700 injured. The number of casualties may rise as rescue teams reach more areas.
As per reports, it is not the first time Venezuela has suffered this natural disaster. Reuters data shows at least 30,000 people died in 1812 following Merida and Caracas City earthquakes.
Condolences following Venezuela earthquake disaster
In his X official account, Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, didn't hesitate to send his condolences. "...On behalf of the people of India, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Venezuela, especially to the families who have lost their loved ones...," Modi said. He also added that he has been saddened by devastation caused by the earthquakes and that India is ready to help where needed.
Following the incident Venezuela interim president, Delcy Rodriguez has declared nationwide state of emergency, as reported by The Times Of India.
Updates following Venezuela earthquakes
As reported by United Nations July 6, 2026, Venezuela has recorded damages worth $37 billion since the disaster hit the country. From their data, $24 billion covers; School and hospitals, homes, businesses and government facilities while $13 billion cover infrastructure such as amenities and public systems.
UN Children's Fund UNICEF says that they need $52 million more to back up their 2026 Venezuela Humanitarian Action Children appeal which is $137.6 million so that they can help with that earthquake situation. The organization is asking for support funding from donors to raise the money for vulnerable children help.
In their latest press release on July 23, 2026, the organization (UNICEF), stated that about 23,100 people are residing in displacement camps at La Guaira, Miranda and the capital district. They also informed of their aim of assisting with nutrition, sanitation and education for upto 470,000 people among which 169,000 are children.
UNICEF support to Venezuela vulnerable children and families
Following UN Children's Fund reports, among their support has been providing water and giving vaccination to the vulnerable. They have also set up breastfeeding stations for the mothers.
Immediate aid needed for recovery process
The disaster has deepened Venezuela's humanitarian issues with thousands of families now living in temporary camps.With UNICEF and donors appealing for $52 million, with time the affected families are expected to recover.
