Court Accepts Aden Duale's Apology in Laikipia Airbase Contempt Case
Health Cabinet Secretary, Aden Duale June 23, 2026 appeared before the Milimani Law Court following disobedience to the court conservatory orders on building of the US-backed Ebola quarantine facility at Laikipia Airbase in Nanyuki, Laikipia County.
Kenya and US governments respect court orders
Addressing the court, Duale said, " The ministry of health and the government of Kenya, remain firmly committed to the constitutional principles of rule of law, respect for court orders and the independence of the judiciary." He went further and told the court that the United States government publicly confirmed the suspension of the collaboration and that both governments complied with the court orders.
Court accepts Duale's apology
Duale submitted a sworn apology affidavit to Justice Patricia Nyaundi. After the review of the apology, the judge considered it worth forgiveness and accepted it. "Since this is the first instance that the Minister is responding to this, I will give him the benefit of doubt that there was actual misapprehension...," the judge said.
She also noted that Duale had been categorical in recognizing the authority of the court. Justice Nyaundi said these were the reasons for accepting the apology.
Nanyuki residents protests over Ebola quarantine centre in their region
Following June 1, 2026 Ebola quarantine facility anti-protests, 2 protesters were shot dead at Nanyuki town. Charles Mwangi, 27 year old was one of two people shot.
According to the reports, the protesters were blocking roads thus preventing vehicles from passing and also burning tyres. The protesters termed that project as risk to their health for the Ebola virus is easily transmitted.
No more Laikipia Airbase Quarantine facility progress
With the court's decision to temporarily stopped the construction of the 50-bed quarantine centre reserved for US residents exposed to the deadly Ebola virus, Nanyuki people's demands have been met.
