England vs Argentina 2026 World Cup Semi Final Early Preview

England will be facing the defending champions, Argentina on Wednesday,July 15, 2026 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium/ Atlanta Stadium in Georgia Atlanta, U.S.A. The Semi Final match will kick-off at 3:00 PM ET

England and Argentina to recreate the iconic rivalry 

Football fans and the whole World eagerly awaits the return of football iconic rivalry. Both two countries has rich source of football and legendary players. The two sides have created unforgettable moments in football history.

The 1986 World Cup quarter final match in Mexico at Estadio Azteca Stadium is one of the historical rivalries. Diego Maradona's 'The goal of the century' in 51 minute remains the goal of the century.

According to FIFA, England goal keeper, Peter Shilton was out jumped by Maradona, who got a good chance to score using his hand. Despite protests from the furious England team, the referee allowed the goal. Reports say that Maradona sealed Argentina's win with his 55 minute goal. Data from FIFA shows that the two teams met again in France 1998 World Cup Round of 16 at Stade Guichard, Saint-Etiene, two decades after the 1986 iconic match. As reported, the two teams drew 2-2 with goals from Gabriel Batistuta, Alan Shearer, Michael Owen and Javier Zanetti. Argentina won 4-3 after Extra Time penalty shots. 

Both sides also played in group stage 1962 where Three-lions won 3-1. They also clashed in 1966 with the host, England carrying the win after 1-0 score at Full Time. The last time this two met was in 2002. Argentina lost 2-1.

The defending champions, Argentina is so far proving that they are capable of winning the World Cup twice in a row. Scoring more goals and pushing till the very end of each match has really benefited them.

What to expect in the Semi Final match

It will be one of the toughest matches, given that the England team is keeping the momentum of winning and in dream of winning their second World Cup trophy in history. 

On Argentina's side, they are the defending champions, and obviously, they are aiming to securing the trophy. 

Since both sides have experienced and World class players, we are expecting a tactical match and defensive one to avoid conceding a goal.
