Transport Disrupted in Chiba City, Japan After a Heavy Rainfall

Over 360 millimeters rainfall on Thursday August 14, 2026 evening hit Chiba City causing suspension in planes take off  and expressways disruption.

At least 8 dead and  thousands get stuck at Narita Airport

According to Reuters reports, the deadly rainfall in Japan, Chiba City, has left at least 8 people dead and 7,000 plane passengers at a standstill in Narita Airport. 

Power supply disruption and victims displacement 

Reports also say that the 367mm(14.5 inches) caused power outage to at least 20,000 residences.

As reported by the The Guardian ,  the affected families have turned to be refugees in state building . Relocation orders have been issued by Japan government to over 400,000 people .

Some of the deaths reported 

Reports data from The Guardian today, says that remains of an aged man in his 70's was  picked  in Ichikawa city with another woman body found at Sakura City in a car stuck in the floods.

Airport authorities suspend transport 

Via their official X account, @Narita_OPC_info, today, Narita airport officials, stated of  JR and Keisei lines temporary halt as well as Chiba's expressways following the heavy rainfall.

Leaders ask Chiba residents to take caution 

Kazuhito Shimamoto, from Ministry of land, infrastructure, transport and tourism asked people living in areas near rivers in flooding areas to be careful and protect themselves 

Why Japan has been hit by extreme rainfall 

According to reports, Japan meteorologists has revealed that climate crisis is driving more frequent and severe weather conditions.

If meteorological personnel keep the people alert in case of any on coming rains or an natural disasters  could help reduce casualties and destruction caused.

Need for action to control floods

Following this tragic news, Japan has a big task ahead to provide protection of the residents and also know how they'll deal with the rains to avoid flooding all over.

Court Accepts Aden Duale's Apology in Laikipia Airbase Contempt Case
