CS Murkomen Announces CCTV Coverage and Police Unit for Nairobi to Fight Crime

With the rate of criminal activities increasing in main towns in Kenya, the government has finally decided to take technology security measures to fight against them.

CCTV coverage for Nairobi and five major towns 

CS for interior and national administration, Murkomen yesterday announced that the government is in process of revamping the security sector by use of technology. "We are in the process of procurement to make sure that Nairobi will have all over CCTV coverage together with Mombasa, Nakuru, Nyeri, Kisumu and Eldoret ", he said. The CS also added that this will help monitor every action that is ongoing in those particular towns. Murkomen also mentioned of government awareness of Nairobi pick-pocket thieves and some juvenile gangs within the CBD. "This improvement of security sector will help us monitor and capture those people...," he added.

Establishment of Nairobi metropolitan police unit

Murkomen went further and informed of change in security architecture of Nairobi. "...you saw me recently travel to New York and London with governor Sakaja to learn from the New York police department and London metro-police...," Murkomen added. From that, he informed that they learned good lessons and when the report is complete, this July the government will commence the process. "It will be called Nairobi Metropolitan Police Unit," he said. The CS mentioned that the police unit will be supported with more equipments, vehicles and better training to enable deal with challenges that Nairobi face as a metropolitan city.
