Thousands of Hindus Hit the Streets of Dhaka Over Alleged Idol Desecration

Today, chaos has erupted in Dhaka, Bangladesh as the Hindu community held a massive demonstration over alleged idol desecration. "Jai Shri Ram" Hindu chants are all over the streets of Dhaka.

Alleged Idol of Lord Ram Desecration 

With Bangladesh being a Muslim-majority and Hindu-minority, tensions rose after allegations that Islamists groups insulted the idol of Lord Ram. The incident is linked with opposition over construction of Lord Ram statue in Gaibandha, which some Muslim oppose.

What protestors are demanding 

Hindus now demand the arrest of those accused of the desecration. The case is reported to have been filed but no arrests have been made up to date. The protesters also want the resumption of the construction of their Idol Statue for it was suspended by those in authorities.

Following the religious tensions, there are concerns over the rights of the minorities in Bangladesh.
