NBA champions, the New York Knicks, got a hero's welcome across the streets of NYC with a parade of floats on June 18, 2026. This came shortly after defeating their opponents, the San Antonio Spurs in the finals.
New York City Mayor honors the team
During the parade, Mayor Zohran Mamdani gave the players the highest honor. "This team has done it, The New York Knicks are the NBA champions," Zohran said. He also added that Knicks victory has brought the city together.
Besides the Mayor's speech and praise for the team, Jalen Brunson proudly congratulated his teammates. "You'll agree we did it, we did it...," Jalen Brunson said. Jalen is the team's captain and was named the Finals MVP against the San Antonio Spurs on June 14th.
Celebrations After Long Wait
The Knicks paraded to celebrate their win after 53 years of waiting for a championship. According to Reuters, 10,000 police officers deployed before the parade kicked off at 10:32 am from Manhattan to City Hall, a 1.1 km distance. Reportedly, popular singer, Alicia Keys led the performance at the ceremony with her favorite songs making most people singing along.
