A jet carrying six people crashed near Laredo, Texas, on June 16, 2026, resulting in the death of one and injuring the other passengers as reported by a local police officer.
According to the Laredo Police spokesperson Jose Baeza the jet struck a car along Laredo Loop 20 highway while attempting to land. Baeza also told reporters that it remains unclear if anyone in that car was hurt. "This is a tragic event," Baeza added.
Police and first responders tried to help the injured
Photos from the scene show first responders trying to help the survivors from the burning wreckage. Flight tracking data shows the plane had departed from San Jose del Cabo airport in Mexico and was headed to Austin, before it was redirected towards Laredo, Texas.
What caused the crash?
The police spokesperson said that they were notified by local airport tower after the pilot reported mechanical issues. He also told reporters that the plane had lost contact with air traffic control before the crash.
According to The Guardian, the officials at NetJets aviation company confirmed that jet with registration N523QS had crashed after developing mechanical issues. The company said that they are cooperating with the authorities.
